#Picture it!

Samoloty, autokary do Krakowa.
Dzień 2 Fotografia partycypacyjna to temat przewodni drugiego dnia. “Who am I?” Współnie mieliśmy okazje pojechać do pobliskiej stoliy Polskich Tatr! Spacerowaliśmy po mieście, odwiedziliśmy szczyt Gubałówki, prawie wszystkie lokalne sklepy i stragany, dom do góry nogami, Wielką Krokiew, niektórzy z nas wypożyczyli nawet rowery aby zobaczyć więcej. Potem dotarliśmy do WeronikaInn i zakończyliśmy przygotowywanie przestrzeni potrzebnej do przeprowadzenia warsztatów. Grupa 1 przygotowała warsztaty “Zoom in / out” (Powiększanie, pomniejszanie(, skupienie się na detalu i drobnych elementach otoczenia. Dzień 7 Był to dzień naszej wystawy! [:en]Together with MasterPeace Eastern Partnership and Central Asia Regional Hub and with youth workers from Italy, Spain, Egipt, Poland, Ukraine Georgia Armenia Belarus and Portugal we had an opportunity to raise the voice and advocate important social and cultural issues through photography in Gmina Poronin in Poland. During the 8 days, we have learned the basic assumptions of the method of participatory photography, gained confidence in picture taking and learned hot to organize photography workshops in the local community. Below you can see the description with many details made by participants.  “Day 0 In our arrival day, we met in the center of Kraków where we took a bus altogether to Poronin. This bus drove us through really amazing landscapes that would let us guess the beauty of Poronin with the mountains on the horizon and the wooden cottages everywhere.  Day 1 The main focus during the day it was to get people to know each other.  We started with an introduction game where we had to write down something about us, like our names and country where we came from, but also our dreams or what we had to share during this TC. We split into 3 groups and walked around the village, we fond some specific elements of the village and we photographed them. Later on, we shared the photos and their stories with the rest of the people. We did an exercise about our expectations, contributions, and fears for the project, dividing into groups and sharing the output with the whole group. We also started organizing ourselves in teams to take care of social media contents, memory keeping, and free time management. Day 2 Day 2 started with getting into the topic of the project and talked about participatory photography. We have learned what does it mean, what kind of photography kind it is and also how we can it in the future). Afterward we did an exercise called “What’s that” – and we split into groups by an exercise that consisted on making the mimics of animals to find , and then had to take some pictures of detailed items and then zoomed out photos of those details, and had the other people to guess what that object was. Another exercise we did this morning was a photo dialogue. We split again into 3 different groups and chose some photos displayed in tables that for each group had to be related to “change, freedom, hope”. For the next task called “Who am I” we had 2 phases: to collect the stories of the people from Poroni and to take pictures of them, and the second one to make a “Self Portrait”. At the end of the afternoon, we shared our experiences and results in the group. Day 3 In day 3 we got deeper into the topic. We started with quite an interesting topic “Collages“. Collage is a mix of different pics that has something in common or just mean something special to the author, whose mission is to convey the idea to the person.  It´s important to understand that each person can interpret the college differently. We had a wonderful opportunity to try to create a collage. We used various things from felt pens up to colorful magazines to make a themed collage “I AM EVERYBODY”. Creating a collage is one thing but presenting it to the group can be much more difficult, so our next step was to present it properly. Now it´s going to be harder but more interesting and exciting. We were talking about how to design and prepare a local workshop. We were divided into 3 groups and started analyzing the community and planning our workshop activities. Our next step was to create a leaflet and go outside into the village and invite people to our workshops. Most of the locals were kind and enthusiastic, that’s why they were accepting our invitations with the smiles on their faces. Day 4 This was a free day – we took a bus in the morning to Zakopane and there we had the chance to walk around the town, invite more people to the workshops and spend some time together. We visited the top of the Gubałówka mountain, the local shops, the upside-down house, the ski lane, some of us rented some bikes and we had dinner in local restaurants with live music.  Day 5 We started with  “Mood Landscape” where we cut some images from papers and then went around Weronika Inn taking pictures of that printed paper relating it with the surroundings. We shared our results with the group. Our other exercise that was to chose a value from a list of values that were given, and take 3 pictures representing 3 values. Then we would gather up in a group of 4 and show are photos to the others so they would guess which value our photo represented. We continued working on detailed planning for the workshops the next day. We worked between 3 groups and inside each group to have the details fixed and worked on strategies to invite people for our surroundings to attend the workshops. Day 6 This was the workshops day. We started the morning by going to the center of Poronin and inviting more people to join us for the workshops. Then we came to Weronika Inn and finished preparing the space. During the morning before leaving to Poronin we also talked about how to organize an exhibition and just before lunch our trainers surprised us with an exhibition of our collages and portraits that was really cool. We had the chance to see again each other’s work and have an example of how to prepare for the next day. After lunch, we started the workshops and still had some of us promoting the workshops around the hotel. We had some people joining the first workshop: Group 1 did some nice activities with those attendants, with energizers, introduction games and photography exercises “zoom in, zoom out” and mood landscape with some meditation before the exercise. Group 2 prepared a workshop about Origami and collage making.  The concept was to express ourselves by making a paper and origami collages of different materials. Afterward, Group 3 made their workshop with city game “Explore Poronin together” and collage making called “Poronin by your eys”. That was really funny because even though we didn’t have so many participants and the rest of the groups ended up being their participants, we made a quest around Poronin with several tasks in each stop, and having to make human letter to write Poronin in each stop. Day 7 This was the exhibition day and the morning started with people splitting into groups and making teams for 3 general tasks: select the works to exhibit, go to the place of the exhibition and study how to share our work there, and the last one to invite people. All together we created the concept of the exhibition like a “travel” in Poronin with different categories (Nature, Animals, People, Buildings and Architecture, Clothes, Food and Drinks, Collages and Making Off). Everyone gathered up the materials and prepared to leave for the public park of Poronin where our exhibition would happen. After lunch we arrived at the park and prepared the space, which turned out really cool, with photos hanging in ropes and collages spread on the benches; balloons to attract people’s attention and post-its with “welcome” written in our mother tongues. We played some music and Group 2 did their workshop which consisted of making really cool collages. We had a lot of people approaching us and some kids participated in the collages with a lot of enthusiasm and others decided to make the Mood Landscape exercise because they got inspired in the photos they saw of it in the exhibition. We spent some hours there and the experience was really positive. We had the chance to explain and show our work to the people, and the work of our participants as well, and everyone looked very interested and happy to have an event happening in Poronin, where they don’t have so many things going on. In the end of the afternoon, we had to say goodbye to our participants and head back to the hotel and have dinner and some rest. We played some games in the night (fixing the killer game), going to the pool and listening to some music together while playing charades. Day 8 Unfortunately, this was our last day and we had to start preparing for saying goodbye and finishing the activities. The day started with a puzzle with everyone’s names, and every person was supposed to write something to the others, so, in the end, we could cut the puzzle and everyone would take a piece with them back home. We reflected about the workshops and the exhibition and got together in our groups to write down a resume and a small presentation of our work, what went accordingly to our plans, what went well or could have been improved, and then present it to everyone. We learned about other ways of digital storytelling and our trainers shared with us some videos with possibilities to do it, which was very interesting and emotional. Finally, we had done on the first day a poster with our expectations, contributions, and fears for the projects in small groups. We were invited to join those groups from the first day, look at our posters and update what went accordingly to our expectations or not. In general, most of the people fulfilled good expectations, as we learned during the group’s presentations to others. We then had our last dinner together and organized a small goodbye party, as everyone would be leaving Poronin in the morning of the next day.” This project has been funded with support from the European Commission in the frame of Erasmus + Programme [:]
